I tried stacking 50 shots of the Orion Nebula from my backyard and it looked worse than one good frame.

I thought more data was always better, but my cheap tripod wobbled in the wind and all that extra time just added blur. Has anyone else found that less is more when your gear isn't perfect?

How can more data help if your gear just adds noise?

Actually @pauljones, more data can average out the noise. The random stuff gets less important the more you stack it up.
