inSpent $400 on a 'professional' knife sharpener that just wrecked my edges
Ugh, that "professional" sharpener story hits home. I was all about those gadgets for years, swore by my pull-through sharpener. Then I watched a guy at the West Side Market fix a knife with a chipped tip in like two minutes on a stone. The edge was way better than anything my gadget ever did. Totally changed how I see it now.

inRant: My neighbor in the North Valley says you should always replace a whole window frame, but my buddy who does handyman work says just swap the sash.
Over a grand for one window? Honestly, that's insane.

inI tried stacking 50 shots of the Orion Nebula from my backyard and it looked worse than one good frame.
Actually @pauljones, more data can average out the noise. The random stuff gets less important the more you stack it up.

inJust pulled a perfect shot after three months of dialing in my new grinder
My old grinder was so loud the neighbor thought I was building furniture at 6am.

inOur backup generator at the shop in Pontiac failed during the storm last night.
My neighbor in Waterford had a similar mess with his standby unit last year. He called one of the big national service companies, and they couldn't get a tech out for three days. A guy at the hardware store gave him a number for a father and son team that works out of Clarkston. They were there in two hours, found a cracked fuel line, and fixed it right in the driveway. Sometimes the smaller operations have way better response times when you really need help.
