So I tried to get a picture of the Orion Nebula from my backyard in Tucson last night
I had everything set up, my little telescope, the camera, even a warm jacket. I was outside for like two hours getting it all perfect. Right when I was about to take the first real long shot, my neighbor's new motion light came on. It was so bright it lit up my whole yard. I jumped and bumped the tripod. The whole thing fell over, camera and all. It landed right in the dirt. I just stood there for a minute, totally shocked. The camera seems okay, but the lens cap is cracked and there's dirt everywhere. I had to pack it all up and spend an hour cleaning. Has anyone else had their astro session ruined by something totally random like a light or an animal?

Feel your pain, my own cat once tripped the tripod cord chasing a moth. Lost a whole night's work to a blurry shot of her tail. Sometimes the universe just fights back.
