A trick for getting old door trim clips to let go without breaking

Honestly, I was fighting with a 2008 Civic's door trim for like 45 minutes, trying to pry it off without snapping the brittle plastic clips. I grabbed a can of the shop's penetrating oil, the PB Blaster stuff, and gave a tiny spray right into the seam where the clip sits. Waited maybe two minutes and it popped right off with almost no pressure. Has anyone else found a good lube or trick for this kind of thing?
