I always scoffed at infrared lamps for curing paint, but last week changed everything

Man, for years I thought those infrared paint curing lamps were just for shops with too much money to burn. I'd always just let things air dry or use fans, figuring it was fine. Then last week, I had this rush job on a classic car where the customer needed it for a show in two days. I was sweating it, so a buddy lent me his IR setup. Used it on the clear coat, and wow, it cured rock hard in like an hour with no dust nibs or anything. I guess I was stuck in my ways, but seeing how it saved my bacon and gave a better finish, I'm totally converted now. Probably gonna invest in one for my own shop soon.

You're right about it taking a crisis to break the cycle. My friend was the same with his old spray gun, swore by it for a decade. Then it broke right before a big job and he had to use a newer model. He was shocked by how much cleaner and faster it was, and he never went back.

Wow, this hits on a common thing I see everywhere. We all have habits and tools we swear by, and we dismiss anything new without giving it a chance. It usually takes a crisis, like your tight deadline, to break that cycle. When you finally try the new thing, the results speak for themselves. This happens with tech, cooking, even how we learn new skills. Your story is a classic case of old habits dying hard until you're shown a better way.

Tbh, it's often pure pride that stops us from changing until something breaks.
