Can we talk about how many people are quietly quitting their corporate jobs for trade work?

Saw a piece on the news about this stuff. They said a lot of places are calling it a "bonus adjustment" when it really hits your take home pay the same way. Like if you were counting on that extra cash for a car payment or vacation, you're suddenly short. Makes you wonder how they get away with the word games, right @the_ben? Feels like a cut no matter what they call it.

Unpopular opinion: I thought the whole 'dial in your tool offsets by feel' thing was just machinist ego.

Reminds me of how my dad insisted on tuning our old car's engine by ear. I thought it was just stubborn pride until he fixed a rough idle the shop's computer couldn't. There's a whole layer of skill that looks like magic until you're forced to do it yourself. Sometimes the old hands are onto something that the new tools just can't see yet.

My sister told me to call the corporate office for my internet issue, and she was dead right

That "weird game show" line is perfect. I once had to call about a messed up phone bill and got sent to "account review" then "technical support" then "billing" and then they tried to send me BACK to account review. I literally yelled "NO" at the poor guy. You're right, you have to skip the hotline and find the corporate email for a real person.

Vent: Seeing a lot of new folks skip the layout step on basic framing

My old crew boss in Texas would check the first plate with a 50 foot tape from both corners. That middle can bow out on you if you only snap lines. You end up chasing that curve through the whole wall.

Faced a choice between fresh herbs and dried ones for my soup this week

Try fresh basil at the very end, it keeps that bright flavor you just can't get from dried.
