Update: tried greasing wheel studs to stop rust, one lug nut came off by hand after 2 days
Last month I got tired of fighting rusty lug nuts on my winter beater, so I put a light coat of anti seize on the studs like an old timer at the parts counter told me. Two days later I checked torque with a beam wrench and one nut spun off with my fingers. Turns out the grease let the nut keep turning past spec, so my 80 ft lbs setting was really closer to 55. I cleaned every stud with brake cleaner, put them back dry, and re torqued to 80 with a click wrench. Now I retorque at 50, 100, and 150 miles on anything I touch. Anyone else had a comeback like this, or do you just run them dry and eat the rust?
