Gave my brother $500 for his business and never got it back, turns out that was the cheap lesson
Two years ago my little brother asked for a loan to fix his food truck engine. I said yes because family. He paid back $100 in three months then stopped. I brought it up at Thanksgiving and my mom said I was being petty over 400 bucks. That stung. But the real lesson came later when he asked for another $300 and I finally said no. He got mad, we barely talked for 6 months. Now we're fine and he respects the boundary. The money was never coming back, but learning to say no saved our relationship. Has anyone else had a family loan go sideways and end up being about something bigger than the cash?
