I finally counted how many times my mom asked for money last year
I was going over my bank stuff and added it up. She asked me for cash 27 times in 2023. It was always for small things like helping with a bill or gas, maybe $40 or $50 each time. I never said no because she's my mom, but it added up to over $1,200. I feel like I need to talk to her about it, but I'm scared she'll get upset. Has anyone else had to set a limit with a parent who keeps asking for help?

Did you ever add up all the small amounts and feel shocked by the total? I had a similar thing with my dad last year, always for things like his phone bill or a grocery top-up. It got to a point where I felt more like an ATM than a daughter. Setting a limit was so hard, but I had to tell him I could only help once a month. How do you think your mom would react if you suggested a budget together?

Ever think a budget would feel like an attack? I used to, but seeing the total like you did totally changed my mind.
