Told my dad I couldn't lend him $1,500 for his truck and he didn't call for 3 weeks
So my dad called me up 3 weeks ago asking for $1,500 to fix the transmission on his truck. I had just paid off my own car and had about $400 in savings, so I told him I couldn't do it. He said "ok" really quiet and hung up, and we didn't speak for almost a month. I felt awful the whole time and almost put it on a credit card just to smooth things over. Finally I called him and said we needed to talk about money stuff honestly instead of going silent on each other. Turns out he was more embarrassed than mad, and we agreed that next time he'll ask what I can actually afford instead of a flat number. Has anyone else had a parent ask for money and then go cold when you said no?
