I used to plan every mile, but a washed-out bridge in the Smokies taught me to pack a paper map.

Got caught in a dead zone once with a dead phone. A paper map was the only thing that got me back to a main road. Now I always throw one in the glove box.

Dead zone with a dead phone" is the exact kind of thing that would have made me roll my eyes before. I was all about the GPS on my phone and thought paper was for old people. Having my phone die on a back road last year was a real wake-up call, so I get it now.
