The Redwood Creek detour after one flooded night changed my route rules
Last spring I planned a 3 day loop near Prairie Creek and everyone online said to stick to the official trail. A ranger warned me about the creek crossing after rain but I figured it was fine, then we hit waist high water at mile 6 and had to turn back in the dark. I spent that night on a gravel bar eating cold beans and swore I'd never trust the forum hype again about 'maintained paths'. Now I always check the weather report for 48 hours prior and pack a backup ridge route, even if it adds 4 miles. Has anyone else gotten stuck by following the popular trail advice over local conditions?
