Changed my mind about composite decking after a rough summer
I was dead set against composite decking for years, thought it was overpriced plastic. But after replacing rotted boards for the third time on my 12x16 cedar deck in Portland, I finally bit the bullet two years ago. The Trex hasn't even faded while my neighbor's pressure-treated is already splitting - anyone else have composites hold up better than they expected?

Funny how the cheap stuff costs more in the long run, just like everything else these days.

Even the packaging is a lie half the time. You buy the cheap version thinking you're saving a few bucks and then the handle snaps off or the zipper breaks after three uses, but the "expensive" one your grandma had is still going strong for 20 years. Could it be that companies know exactly who's buying the cheap stuff and design it to fail so you have to buy it again? Maybe there should be a law that whoever makes the cheapest version has to put a countdown timer on the box showing exactly how many uses you'll get out of it. Don't you think that would change how people shop overnight?
