My pergola went from eyesore to centerpiece in 3 weekends
Last spring my 12x16 cedar pergola was sagging with cracked beams and vines choking the posts, I finally tore it down and rebuilt with 6x6 posts and steel brackets. The whole yard feels different now, has anyone else brought an old structure back to life or did you just start fresh?

...so when you say steel brackets, do you mean the kind that bolt into concrete footings or the ones that tie the beams to the posts? Because I rebuilt my deck last year and used the surface mount ones, but the inspector made me redo it with the ones that go inside the post, and honestly that extra weekend of work was brutal.

Figured the surface mounts were fine for my pergola and honestly theyre holding up great after two winters. Inspectors are just covering their own butts half the time, theyll tell you one thing in one town and the exact opposite twenty miles down the road.
