Serious question, my shed slab cracked 11 days after pouring and I'm wondering if I did something wrong
I poured a 10x12 slab for my shed back on the 12th of last month, and by day 11 there was a crack running about 3 feet from the corner nearest the gate. I was out there with a level and a trowel, felt like I did everything by the book, mixed it wet enough to work but not soupy, and kept it covered with a tarp for 4 days while it set. My neighbor across the street, Dale, walked over and pointed at the crack and said the ground under it probably settled because I only dug down 4 inches and my yard is mostly old fill dirt from when they built the subdivision in the 70s. So I rented a small jackhammer from the tool rental on 5th, broke out the bad corner, dug down another 8 inches, and packed in 3 bags of crushed gravel before re-pouring that section with a bag of high strength mix. The patch has held for 3 weeks now with no new cracks, but I keep checking it every morning like a nervous dad. Has anyone else had a slab crack that fast, and did you find out it was the base or was it something else like too much water in the mix?
