Spent 10 years leveling fence posts with a torpedo level before I saw a guy use a string line and it saved me 4 hours on my latest backyard build.

Had a buddy walk over and ask why my posts were all crooked when he could see from 20 feet away, and now I feel like an idiot for not using the obvious tool for the job, anyone else stubbornly stick with a bad method for way too long?

Whoa there, take it easy on yourself. A crooked fence is annoying but it's not like you built the whole thing leaning sideways into your neighbor's yard. I've seen way worse from people who thought they were pros and still used a string line wrong. So you wasted a few hours, big deal. Most folks would rather just vibe with a level and not have to mess with setting up stakes and tying knots anyway, right?
