Counted 47 eggs from my three hens in one week
I was just tallying up the cartons for a neighbor and the number stopped me. That's over 15 eggs per bird, which is way above the average for my Barred Rocks. I realized it happened right after I finally switched their feed to a higher-protein layer pellet from the local feed mill. The timing seems too exact to be a coincidence. Has anyone else seen a jump like that after changing feed?

Oh totally, that makes perfect sense. I had the same thing happen with my girls last fall. They were on this basic feed from the big box store and production was just okay. Switched to a local mill's high-protein mix and within maybe ten days, I was filling cartons like crazy. It was a really clear difference, like they just had more fuel to work with. The protein boost seems to be the key thing for mine.

Yeah, that local mill feed is a game changer. My hens went from laying every other day to a steady daily egg after the switch. The extra protein really does make all the difference.
