Spent $240 fixing a leak that was really just a $6 flapper
For about six weeks I kept hearing the toilet run in the middle of the night and just told myself it was the pipes settling. Ended up calling a plumber out to the house in Tucson who poked around for 20 minutes and swapped the flapper in the tank for $6 plus his $180 service call. So that's $240 gone because I never once lifted the lid to look. What's the dumbest thing you've paid someone to fix that you could've done yourself?
Did your plumber at least look sorry about it? My buddy had the same thing happen with his furnace, kept resetting the breaker every few days for a month before he finally called a guy out. Turns out the filter was so clogged the thing was overheating and shutting itself off. $150 for the visit and a $12 filter from the hardware store. He still brings it up at every cookout.
