The double boil method finally made my candle game not suck

I burnt through like 12 candles over 6 months that all had terrible tunneling and wasted wax. Last Tuesday I tried the double boil trick with a cheap saucepan and a glass jar, instead of just melting the wax straight in the microwave. Turns out the microwave was heating it too fast and unevenly, which made the wax grab onto the sides. Now I set my melting temp to 170 degrees and the burn pool goes edge to edge every single time. I was stubborn about it for ages because it seemed like extra work, but man, it's just a few extra minutes. Has anyone else had a candle problem that turned out to be a heat control thing? I'm curious if I need a thermometer for every batch or if eyeballing it works for some people.

Did the same thing last month and yeah, it's all about that temp control.
