My stand mixer locked up mid-batch of cookie dough last Saturday

I was making a double batch of chocolate chip cookies for a neighbor's party and about halfway through creaming the butter and sugar, the motor just stopped. No warning, no weird smell, just a click and then silence. Turns out the plastic gear inside finally gave out after 8 years of heavy use. Anyone else had that happen and found a good replacement source for the gears?

Right, the "plastic gear finally gave out" part hits close to home. I had the exact same thing happen on a KitchenAid that was about ten years old, and it was making a batch of sugar cookies, just like you. The real kicker is that you can buy a whole new set of metal gears online for like 15 bucks and they're way tougher than the original plastic ones. A lot of people think you have to buy a whole new mixer but you can totally fix it yourself with a screwdriver and a YouTube video. I put the metal ones in mine and it's been running smooth for two years now with no problems, even with heavy bread dough. Just make sure you get the right model number for your mixer, otherwise the gear won't fit right and you'll be stuck.

@jennifer358 nailed it with the metal gear swap. I did the same thing on my old KitchenAid after the plastic one stripped out mid-batch of pizza dough. Found a kit on Amazon for around 12 bucks, watched a 10 minute video, and it was way easier than I thought. Only tip I'd add is to grease the new metal gears good with food grade lubricant before you put it back together, mine runs quieter than it ever did with the plastic ones.
