Tried making sourdough starter 4 times in 2023 and gave up every time but a friend's tip about pineapple juice finally got it working last month

My third starter in July actually smelled like vomit for a week and I was so ready to quit forever. Pineapple juice sounds crazy but the acidity really does help keep the bad bacteria away while the good stuff gets going. I was skeptical of all the weird tricks people recommend but this one is legit, I have to admit I was wrong.

Yeah, I had the same vomit smell problem with my first starter. What finally did it for me was switching to whole wheat flour and feeding it twice a day for a few days, it got really active and the smell just disappeared.
