Tried two different ways to make my pie crust last night
I used my usual recipe with cold butter for one, but for the other I grated frozen butter into the flour like I saw online. The frozen butter crust was way flakier and didn't shrink at all in the pan. Has anyone else tried this trick with other kinds of fat?

Grating butter sounds messy and wastes good baking time.

Grating frozen butter is messy? That's the part @brookes37 gets hung up on? The cleanup takes two seconds and the result is totally worth it. The real trick is using a box grater straight into your flour bowl. Tried the same thing with frozen shortening once and it made the absolute worst pie crust, weirdly tough and bland. Butter is the only fat that works for this method in my book.
