Can we talk about paying for a full financial plan?

I paid a broker $1,200 last year to build a full financial plan for my family. He looked at my retirement, my kids' college fund, and my insurance. The bank offered a similar service for free, but it felt very basic. Now I'm not sure if the broker's detailed advice was worth the cost, or if the bank's free checkup would have been enough. What do you think is the better move for long-term planning?

Did you actually follow the broker's plan? Paying for advice is pointless if you don't use it, and the free option might have gotten you to the same actions.

Good point from @the_stella, did you put the plan into action? Sometimes the free option pushes you to do the basics, which is better than paying for a fancy plan you ignore.
