I had a bank teller tell me I was 'wasting her time' with a cash deposit
Stopped into my local Chase branch in Portland last Tuesday. Had $4,300 in small bills from a job I just finished. Needed it deposited into my business account. Teller looked at the stack of twenties and sighed. She said 'you know you can use the ATM for this.' I told her no, I prefer a receipt and I don't trust those machines with that much cash. She rolled her eyes and made a comment about how I should 'get with the times.' Honestly it stuck with me. I get that digital banking is convenient but there's still something about walking in, talking to a person, and knowing your money is safe. Has anyone else had a teller act annoyed at you for using a basic service?

Did that teller give you a hard time about the receipt too or just the waiting?

I read somewhere recently that bank tellers are actually being trained now to steer people toward ATMs and self-service because the banks are trying to cut costs on staffing. It's one thing to offer the option, but quite another to make a customer feel like a burden for doing business the old-fashioned way. I had a similar thing happen at my credit union last year when I asked for a cashier's check. The girl at the counter acted like I'd asked her to solve a math problem by hand. I don't think it's unreasonable to want a human interaction and a proper paper trail when you're handling thousands of dollars.
