Am I the only one who thought challenged books were always about sex and swearing?
I finally read the actual challenge report for my local district in Ohio last month after a librarian mentioned it at a book sale, and most of the complaints were about a kids book where a girl stands up to a bully. That made me go back and check the list from two years ago, and a Captain Underpants title got pulled for "disruptive behavior" in the story. What's the weirdest reason you've seen on a challenge form for a book that isn't really about anything wild?
What did the librarian say when you brought up the Captain Underpants thing, did she act like that was normal? A book about a guy in his underwear fighting talking toilets getting flagged for disruptive behavior says way more about the adults than the kids. I keep wondering if these forms ever get pushback or if everyone just nods along.
