Just got told my 7th grader isn't allowed to check out Maus from the school library
I asked the librarian why and she said a parent complained about 'graphic content' last year so they just pulled it from circulation. Has anyone else dealt with a school quietly banning books without actually telling anyone?

My middle school did the same thing with Persepolis. A few parents griped about the scene where the main character buys illegal tapes, and boom, they quietly moved it to the teachers lounge where nobody could check it out. I only found out because my kid asked me to get it from the public library after the school said it was "unavailable." Meanwhile they have a shelf full of those old Calvin and Hobbes collections that show Hobbes getting his tail ripped off in a fight. Makes zero sense.

Is the school library also going to ban oxygen because too much of it can technically be toxic? That book literally won a Pulitzer and teaches kids about real history, but sure, let's hide it because one parent got uncomfortable. When I was in 7th grade we were reading The Giver and that has way creepier vibes than Maus if you ask me. Maybe they can switch the graphic novel section to just Garfield compilations and call it a day.
