Old barber told me to use cold water for rinsing razors. He was right.
Been cutting for about 8 years now. Always used hot water to rinse my straight razor between passes. This retired barber named Pete watched me one day and said 'stop that, you're dulling the edge.' Hot water expands the metal too fast he explained. I tried cold water for a week straight and my blades stayed sharp way longer. Anyone else hear this trick or is Pete just old school?

Yeah that makes sense. Hot water messes with the metal too fast, cold keeps it stable. Pete definitely knew what he was talking about.

Yeah @jamiew83, you totally changed my mind. I was on the wrong track before.

Ngl I gotta push back on that cold water thing. Ive been using hot water for years and my razors hold up just fine. Swapping temps that fast might cause more damage than just rinsing in hot honestly. Pete sounds like he had some good theories but I dont buy it for regular use.
