Just learned my drive-thru headset costs $1,200 to replace - can you believe that?

I was cleaning ours last week and cracked the casing on accident, looked up the model number for a replacement part and bam, three figures for a new one. Has anyone else been shocked by the price of some random equipment you use every day?

My shop's diagnostic computer for modern cars runs close to $3,000 for just the basic model. Found that out when my old one finally died last spring. I called around to a few local parts places and ended up buying a refurbished unit from a dealer two towns over for half the price. Took some digging but saved me a good chunk of change, and it works just as well as a brand new one.

Man, I read somewhere that those drive-thru headsets are basically the same tech as aviation headsets but marked up like crazy for the restaurant biz. Makes sense but still stings when you're on the hook for it. I feel your pain though, you don't think about the cost until it's broken in your hands.
