Our coffee grinder's motor gave out during the morning rush yesterday, so we had to hand-grind three pounds of beans with the backup manual mill.

Has anyone else had a major piece of equipment fail at the absolute worst possible time, and what was your quick fix?

Watched our main espresso machine give up its ghost right before a Saturday morning wedding rush. We had two little home machines we use for staff coffee, so we lined them up on the bar like a sad, slow firing squad. Took about twenty minutes per drink, and I'm pretty sure we killed the goodwill of everyone who ordered a latte.

Sad, slow firing squad" is such a perfect way to put it. We had a similar vibe when our only ladder truck was out of service and we were responding to calls with a pickup and some garden hoses.
