Man, that's the classic "old thing breaks" problem in a nutshell. It's everywhere, from bikes to old houses to vintage electronics. You start a simple fix and suddenly you're down a rabbit hole of impossible parts and expensive craftsmen. Feels like modern life is just duct tape holding together a bunch of stuff that wasn't built to last this long.
