That old guy at the co-op showed me a trick that saved me 30 mins on cable routing

I was at the local bike co-op last Saturday trying to route some internal cables on a 2015 Cannondale frame. A older guy who volunteers there watched me struggle for a bit then just handed me a magnet and a piece of string. He showed me how to tape the string to the magnet and fish it through the frame, then pull the cable back with the string. It took me maybe 5 minutes after that. Has anyone else got a weird trick like that for internal routing that just works way better than the normal way?

Ha, that magnet trick is gold. My first attempt at internal routing I spent 45 minutes with a wire hanger and a lot of cursing. Finally gave up and used a vacuum cleaner with a piece of string tied to a cotton ball. Sucked it right through the downtube. Felt like a genius until I realized the string got tangled around something in there and I had to start over anyway. Your method sounds way more reliable.

Tbh, is this really that deep? Its a bike cable, not brain surgery. If you mess up a hole in drywall sure, that's a problem, but you can literally just buy a new housing or cable for like 12 bucks.
