Binged a show in 2 days that I'd been avoiding for months

I finally got around to watching The Bear after my sister kept pushing it on me since Christmas. I dunno why I put it off, I think the kitchen stress premise just sounded too anxiety inducing. But I sat down last Tuesday night and finished all 18 episodes by Thursday morning. The before and after for me was real, before I was pretty sure I'd hate the constant shouting and chaos, after I actually found the family drama parts way more interesting than the cooking. What changed was that I stopped comparing it to reality TV cooking shows and just let it be its own thing. The episode with the fancy dinner service critique, that one hit me in a way I didn't expect. Has anyone else had a show they resisted forever and then binged it way faster than they thought they would? What finally got you to press play?

I heard a podcast episode about how The Bear is really more about trauma and family than food, which is what finally made me give it a shot. That detail about the inner critic episode you mentioned, I read somewhere that it was based on a real chef's worst night, and it shows in how raw it feels. Once I let go of expecting a food show, I got way more invested in the characters than I ever thought possible.
