Shoutout to my friend who keeps calling 'The Bear' a cooking show
He watched the whole first season and still thinks it's just about a chef making sandwiches! I had to explain it's really about grief, family, and the stress of running a business, with some amazing kitchen scenes. He was shocked when I pointed out the 'Review' episode is one long panic attack, not a fun cooking competition. Has anyone else had to convince someone they totally missed the point of a show?
Oh my god, that's hilarious and kind of sad! But seriously, does your friend watch any other shows where he just completely misses the big picture? Like thinking Breaking Bad is just about a guy doing science? I'm so curious what else he's gotten totally wrong.
My buddy watched all of The Office and thought Michael Scott was a legit management genius. Said he was "unconventional but effective." Missed the whole cringe comedy thing. Also argued that Mad Men was just a cool show about old fashion and drinking at work. The deeper stuff about emptiness and advertising? Totally went over his head.
