A 70 year old guy at the farmers market made me ditch my power hammer for a hand hammer on hooks

I always thought power hammers were faster for making coat hooks. This old timer named Carl told me I was losing control on the curves. He showed me one of his hooks done by hand and the finish was way cleaner. Tried it on my next batch of 15 hooks and cut my grinding time in half. Anybody else get better results slowing down on small pieces?

Well Carls got a point but youre still using power hammers wrong. Did he show you the trick with lighter hammer blows?

Ngl, are we still arguing about Carl's hammer technique? Honestly, the lighter blows trick is solid but it's not gonna fix bad tool setup. You gotta match the hammer to the material first before you even think about adjusting your swing. Most folks just crank up the power and call it a day, that's the real problem.
