Finally bit the bullet on a $400 propane forge
Honestly, I was running a coal forge from the 80s for the last 3 years and got sick of hauling fuel. Picked up a two-burner propane setup from a guy in Ohio last month, and it's been a game changer for my small blade work. The heat is way more even, and I'm not spending 20 minutes just getting the fire right before I start. Anyone else make the switch and find it worth the money?

Gotta disagree, coal gives you way better control for heat treating.

You said coal gives "way better control" for heat treating, but I'm curious what specific part of the process you're finding easier with coal. I've had trouble keeping a consistent temp for soaking with coal, especially in the edge to spine transition. Do you use a separate heat treat forge or just work it all on the same fire?
