Got lazy with my forge lining for 3 months and paid the price

I run a little shop out of my garage near Spokane and last month I noticed my propane forge wasn't holding heat like it used to. Figured I'd patch the cracks later but kept putting it off. Three weeks ago a chunk of the refractory fell off mid-heat and landed right in my coal bucket - caught the whole thing on fire. Had to toss the bucket and spend $80 on new lining material. Has anybody else had a liner fail on them like that or am I just the slow learner around here?

And the coal bucket caught fire? Oh man, that's wild. I've had lining crack on me before but never had it actually fall out and start a fire like that. You must've been panicking when you saw that happen. Glad you didn't get hurt at least, but $80 for new lining material is a tough way to learn a lesson. I bet you won't be putting off patching cracks ever again.

My buddy Tim had the same thing happen with his old stove last winter.
