PSA: A demo at the state fair completely changed how I set my anvil
I was watching a guy from the Mountain Forge Guild at the fairgrounds last month. He had a simple trick where he put a piece of heavy rubber mat under his anvil, not just on the stand. He said it was cut from an old conveyor belt. Tried it in my own shop and the ring is almost gone, plus my feet don't hurt after a long day. Anyone else use something weird under their anvil to kill the noise?

Remember those old steel bleachers at the football field? I got a bunch of the seat planks when they tore them out, the ones with the raised diamond pattern. I bolted a few of those together under my anvil block. It doesn't kill the ring as much as your rubber trick, but it sure stops the whole thing from walking across the floor. It sounds like a train crash when you strike, but at least it stays put. What kind of glue did that guy say holds the rubber to the stand?

I always thought you needed a solid mount, but that rubber trick really does work.
