PSA: Stop burning out your anvil face with cheap wire brushes, I ruined my 100 lb Refflinghaus in 3 months before I figured out it was the brass coated junk from Harbor Freight causing the problem
Anyone else dealt with hidden grit in cheap brushes scratching up your face or am I the only one dumb enough to learn that lesson the hard way?

I get where you're coming from with the "hidden grit" thing, but I actually think cheap brushes get a worse rap than they deserve. A lot of the time people blame the brush when the real issue is technique, like pressing too hard or using the wrong speed. I've used those same Harbor Freight brass brushes on my Hay Budden for over a year without any damage, and I just make sure to run them over a scrap piece of steel first to knock off any loose particles. What kind of speed and pressure were you running when you noticed the wear?

Hey, did you honestly just try to use "technique" as a comeback for a brush that's literally shedding metal grit onto your anvil? I guess next time my wire wheel chunks off a bristle I'll just tell my anvil to try different speed and pressure.
