Took me 3 hours to realize I was reading the instructions wrong

Picked up a copy of Terraforming Mars last weekend. Sat down with my buddy and we tried to figure out the rules. Three hours later we still hadn't finished a single round. Turned out I skipped the whole phase about standard projects. We were just hoarding cards and doing nothing. Had to restart from scratch. Anyone else waste a whole night on a rulebook fail?

Man, that's the thing about board games, they're like a perfect mirror for how we all tend to skip over the small stuff in life and then wonder why everything's a mess. It took me forever to figure out my coffee maker does the same thing if you don't read all the buttons right.
