Just learned a wild stat about how much heat escapes a boiler door seal
I was reading through some old union material from the 90s last night, and I stumbled on a fact that blew my mind. A half inch gap in a boiler door gasket can let out enough heat to waste about 300 gallons of fuel oil a year on a mid-size industrial unit. That's over $800 just gone because someone didn't tighten a dog or replace a worn seal. I've worked with guys who ignore those small leaks for months, thinking it's no big deal. Has anyone else seen a big jump in efficiency after swapping out a door gasket that looked fine?

@christopher_craig Are steam traps bleeding more than boiler door gaskets though?

Wound up in a similar rabbit hole a few years back watching some old training videos from the 80s. They had this thing about steam traps, how one barely noticeable leak could blow through a couple hundred bucks a month easy. Kinda makes you wonder what else is silently bleeding money in a boiler room that nobody bothers to look at.
