Our club spent 3 meetings arguing about the ending of 'The Road'

Honestly, we picked Cormac McCarthy's book for a quick one month read. Tbh, I figured we'd wrap up the debate in a single night. Ngl, it turned into a 6 week long thing because half the group saw the ending as hopeful and the other half saw it as totally bleak. We kept going in circles, pulling quotes from page 273 and the final paragraph. It got so deep we had to vote on a final club interpretation just to move on. Has your group ever gotten stuck on one book's meaning for that long?

Sounds like your book club needs a therapist more than a new book pick.

Come on wendyc53, it's just a book club. How bad could it really be?
