Our club split 6 to 5 over whether the dad in Room was a hero or a coward, and I was the tiebreaker
I said he was a coward for the escape plan timing and my friend Dana slammed her mug down at the Panera on 5th and said I missed the point of the whole book, so tell me who is right.
Fighting over Room at a Panera is the most book club thing that has ever happened, so congrats on that. But come on, judging his escape plan timing is like judging a guy for not parallel parking perfectly while his house is on fire. The whole point is that he kept Jack alive in a shed for years with nothing, and yeah he got them out late, but in the book he's the only one who knew how bad it was out there cause he lived it with her. Dana's right that you missed the point, but you're not crazy for thinking the plan was dumb, it kind of was. Just don't let one bad escape plan make you forget he was willing to die so his kid could see the sky.
