Question on if book club debates were hotter in the past

Back then, we always picked classic novels that led to big arguments. Now, my new club goes for bestsellers with smoother talks. Are your club's talks different now?

Three hours of yelling about Ulysses? That sounds made up. My current club barely talks for thirty minutes before everyone agrees. What could they possibly scream about for that long? Books today don't get people that heated.

My friend's old club yelled about 'Ulysses' for three hours straight.

Honestly, when you said they yelled about 'Ulysses' for three hours, it got me. I always thought that book was just a boring slog, but hearing how fired up people can get over it actually makes me want to try reading it again. Maybe there's something there I missed, lol.
