A customer's one comment about my grain direction fixed my weak spines

Had a guy in Portland last month hand back a journal I bound and say the covers felt 'floppy, like they'd sag on a shelf.' I was using the grain the way I always had, but he pointed out my book cloth was running the wrong way for the board. Switching the grain on my last 12 projects made a huge difference, no more creasing at the hinge. Has anyone else had a customer catch something you'd been doing wrong for years?

My dad taught me grain direction 40 years ago and he'd laugh his ass off if he saw this post. Us bookbinders are stubborn as hell.
