The Tuesday I spent 8 hours alphabetizing a supply closet by smell

Ngl, I work at a small medical office and we got a new office manager who had this weird idea to organize the supply closet. Not by name or size, no, she wanted us to sort the hand sanitizers and lotions by scent. So last Tuesday I stood there for 8 hours sniffing bottles of citrus blast and lavender calm, trying to decide if vanilla was closer to coconut or almond. The worst part was when a patient walked by and caught me with my nose buried in a box of alcohol wipes, and he just stared at me like I was losing it. I actually started to lose track of which scent was which after the 40th bottle, and my sense of smell just gave up completely. By 4pm I was convinced everything smelled like the same weird plastic. Has anyone else had a boss order something that made zero sense, or is this just my luck with managers who watch too many organizing shows?

Actually that sounds way better than my old job where we sorted the same stuff by expiration date and threw away half of it. At least with scents you get to use your senses, you know? And honestly, patients probably appreciate walking into a supply closet that smells like a spa instead of straight bleach. That guy staring at you probably just thought you were doing some kind of high level quality control. Plus alphabetizing by smell is way more memorable than boring old A to Z, people will talk about that closet for years.
