Comparing the old paper trail to a $40 clipboard with a dry erase sleeve finally convinced me to write every job down before touching a tool, the 5 minutes of planning cut my redo rate by half, has anyone else seen that kind of jump just from writing stuff out?

Honestly I gotta push back on this one. Writing stuff down before touching a tool feels like extra busywork when you already know the job in your head. The real fix for redo rate is catching mistakes while you're turning the wrench, not before you start. I've seen guys spend five minutes scribbling notes and still miss the same bolt they always miss, because the problem was the work, not the memory. Plus that clipboard gets lost or wiped clean halfway through the day anyway, so you're back to guessing on the next job. If the system works for you, cool, but I bet half that improvement came from just looking at the car longer, not the writing.
