Update: My boss in Denver told me to stop sending emails after 6 PM.

I was working 12 hour days trying to prove myself, but my manager pulled me aside last Tuesday and said my late messages were making the team feel pressured to reply. I had no idea I was creating that kind of stress... so now I'm stuck between looking dedicated and actually being a good teammate. Has anyone else had to change a work habit they thought was a strength?

Wow, that's a tough spot. I wonder if your boss is actually protecting you from burnout, not just the team. Those long hours might make you seem dedicated now, but they could lead to you crashing hard later. Maybe they want you to build a sustainable pace, not just a fast start.

Actually had a boss pull me aside for the same thing once. They were right about the long hours not being a good long term plan. Finding a steady pace really did help in the end.
