Overheard my boss laughing about making us work through Labor Day weekend
I was grabbing coffee by the break room last Thursday and heard my manager talking to the district guy about scheduling a 'mandatory push' for Labor Day weekend. He said something like 'they'll grumble but no one actually follows through with HR complaints.' That told me right there he knows it's not allowed but thinks we're too scared to do anything about it. Has anyone else had a boss openly admit they're breaking policy but counting on you not to report it?

And the thing is, he's probably right that most people won't file a formal complaint. I had a boss a few years back who straight up told me that HR was a "paper tiger" and as long as everyone got their time back later in the month, nobody would care. He was right too, even though I knew it was technically illegal. Unless you've got a union backing you up, pushing back usually just ends with you being the difficult one.

Yeah @the_stella that hits close to home lol. It's wild how many places just count on you not making a fuss so they can keep doing whatever they want. I feel like the system is basically set up to protect the company no matter what.
