I tried germinating my heirloom tomato seeds in a sunny window versus under a $40 grow light, and the difference was huge.

That grow light was a total game changer for my seedlings too.

My friend was so stubborn about her windowsill starts, said the sun was free. Her peppers got all leggy and sad. After seeing @wright.dakota's results, I finally talked her into a cheap light. Her next batch was like different plants, super sturdy. She won't shut up about it now, totally converted. It just gives them what they need, no cloudy days messing things up.

Yeah, "sun is free" sounds good until your plants look like sad spaghetti, lol.
