Spent 6 hours fighting a lintel that should've taken 20 minutes

Last Tuesday I'm doing a simple opening swap on a house in Tacoma, and the steel lintel I ordered showed up 3 inches short. No big deal, right? Wrong. The brick above it was already tied in and I had to chip out every single course above the window just to get the new one seated. What should've been a quick morning turned into a full day of patching and repointing. Has anyone else had a supplier screw up a measurement and just decided to cut their losses and order twice?

Three inches might as well be three miles on a jobsite.
